Meet Lauren Shoemaker

Education & Early Career

Lauren moved to North Carolina in 2003 after completing dual degrees in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from Penn State University. Shortly after, she began her career at the United States Department of Agriculture National Science Laboratory in Gastonia. Over the years, her professional path has grown from Laboratory Technician to Molecular Biologist, Laboratory Auditor, and now Biology Section Supervisor.

Life in Mount Holly

Lauren and her husband Jason settled in Mount Holly in 2006, purchasing their first home together. Since then, they have built deep roots in the community. Together, they are raising two children and are active members of Good Shephard Lutheran Church.

Community Involvement

Lauren has a long history of civic engagement, serving as both a member and board member with organizations including Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mount Holly Community Development Foundation, Gaston County Jaycees, North Carolina JCI Senate, North Carolina Jaycees, Mount Holly Farmers Market (board member), and the Mount Holly Community Garden.

Before being elected to City Council, Lauren contributed her time and expertise to several city and regional initiatives, including:

  • Mount Holly Economic Development Committee

  • Mayor’s Greenway Taskforce

  • Planning and Zoning Commission
